Life Under a Leaky Roof

David Owen

This is a light and humorous book on the problems and experiences if home remodeling.

After quite a few years of living in an apartment in New York City, David Owen and family moved to a small town in Northwestern Connecticut and into a house that was built in 1790. The house was in pretty bad shape and this book is mostly the story of the remodeling and repairing of the house and the way their new house remodeled the owners.

David Owen’s Law of Home Improvement is: The knowledge one gains in the course of doing something is the knowledge one ought to have had before trying it in the first place.

And the corollary: Learning by doing invariably means learning by doing wrong.
