The Hungry Ocean

Linda Greenlaw

Those who have read The Perfect Storm will recognize the name Linda Greenlaw as captain of the Hannah Boden, the sister ship to the Andrea Gail, and who was described as “not just the only woman swordboat captain, but one of the best captains, period, on the entire East Coast.” Perhaps of even greater importance is the fact that she was a schoolmate of Sarah’s at Colby.

The book describes a more or less typical thirty–day trip to the Grand Banks, with discussions of equipment and techniques for catching fish, personnel problems of crew being cooped up for an extended period of time on a small boat, and weather.

It is a well–written book and one I enjoyed very much.
