The Odyssey

This book, as probably everyone knows, is the story of Odysseus and the trials of his return home after the Trojan War. The translator says that he has attempted to use modern language for the sake of readability rather than to worry about a literal translation. I find the book very readable although his occasional use of slang sometimes brings me up short. I find it easy to get in the mood of the ancient story, but words like flummoxed give me pause.
